Around the Corner Tutoring is a small educational consultancy specializing in Wilson Reading instruction owned and operated by Ms. Pendery, a licensed special educator with 20 years experience teaching struggling learners in the Brookline Public Schools, MA. With expertise in reading at the decoding level, comprehension, writing, and study skills, and Ms. Pendery is taking new students for tutoring.
Ms. Pendery obtained her Education Specialist Degree (Ed.S.) in Language and Literacy from Simmons College. Taught by luminaries in the field of reading science, Louisa Moats and Barbara Wilson; writing, Bonnie Singer; and communication, Anthony Bashir, Ms. Pendery is trained and certified in Wilson Reading Systems, Levels I and II, EmPOWER, and multiple stands of Project Read including Framing Your Thoughts, Story Form and Report Form. Additionally, Ms. Pendery is well versed in Orton-Gillingham and numerous multi-sensory reading programs that employ OG methodology such as Lively Letters and Wisnea-Kapp, and auditory discrimination programs such and the Lindamood-Bell LiPS program.
When all is said and done, programs don’t teach students, teachers do. Ms. Pendery skillfully weaves robust, evidence-based methods into her practice with students. She tailors instruction to suit the needs of each learner for the best possible outcome. While maintaining high expectations of each student’s ability, she makes learning fun, and rewarding.
